The New Cobalt R31 Surf!

Cobalt R31 Surf

The R31 Surf went public at the January 2025 Atlanta Boat Show and we never posted it. Still current. Not this August’s launch; that is the R26 Surf. Factory card: 31′ 5″, 9′ 10″ beam, 160 gallons, Yacht Certified, head yes. Same length, beam, and tank as the sterndrive R31. Surf Gate and Volvo Penta Forward Drive are the Surf Class system. I am not adding a ballast figure. Cobalt did not print one on the spec list I have. The class page says ballast applies except on the R33 Surf and R35 Surf, which is not the same thing as a number.

Naming, because Coastal will confuse people again. This post is the surf boat. There is a sterndrive R31 at 31′ 5″. There is an R31 Coastal at 32′ 8″ because the outboards hang off the transom. Three boats, three jobs.

Factory specs

  • LOA: 31′ 5″
  • Beam: 9′ 10″
  • Fuel: 160 gal
  • Capacity: Yacht Certified
  • Head: yes

No dry weight, no draft, no engines, no ballast pounds on the card I copied. Those lines are omitted on purpose. For club context, the class cards that do print ballast give 810 lbs on the R26 Surf, 1,226 on the R4 Surf, and 2,350 on the R8 Surf. I will not guess where the R31 Surf sits in that stack.

If you bought one at Atlanta or after and we never asked, send pictures. I live in the Seattle area. A set and an owner feature beat another factory PNG.

Photos to editor@mycobalt.net. Selling the boat this replaced? $25 / $50 here. This is not a for-sale post.
