The New Cobalt R4 Surf!

Cobalt R4 Surf

Same catch-up on the R4 Surf. We posted the sterndrive R4. We never posted the wake version. Not a 2026 boat. Same 24′ 3″, same 8′ 6″ beam, same 50-gallon tank, 13 persons, no head. Plus Surf Gate, Volvo Penta Forward Drive, and 1,226 lbs of ballast on the card.

It sits under the R8 Surf and the R26 Surf. Same beam as those two, so the garage-door question is the same and the length is the difference. There is also an R4 Coastal in the outboard book. This page is the surf boat. No head. Same honest warning I wrote on the R4: these are shorter days unless you like planning around a marina restroom.

Factory specs

  • LOA: 24′ 3″
  • Beam: 8′ 6″
  • Fuel: 50 gal
  • Capacity: 13 persons
  • Head: no
  • Ballast: 1,226 lbs

Fifty gallons is the small tank in this surf group. Thirteen people, no toilet, 1,226 lbs of ballast. That is a lake-loop surf boat, not a weekend cruiser. I do not have dry weight, draft, or engines on the card I copied, so I am not inventing them. If you already surf a small Cobalt, I want to know whether 1,226 lbs feels like enough or whether you keep looking at the R8 Surf’s 2,350.

Club photos welcome at editor@mycobalt.net. I live in the Seattle area. If the R4 Surf means something is coming out of the slip, list it here for $25 (or $50 premium). This is not a boat-for-sale post.
