Trading up to the new R26? List your used Cobalt here

Cobalt’s new R26 showed up on the factory site in August 2026 and took the old R6 sterndrive slot. If you have been waiting for “the next family-size day boat,” that is it — 26′ 5″ with the swim platform, 8′ 6″ beam, dual Garmin glass, and the usual Cobalt build talk. I already wrote the catch-up post here:

This one is for the other half of the story. A lot of club folks who order a new R26 (or R26 Surf) will have a perfectly good used Cobalt that suddenly needs a new home. That is where MyCobalt earns its keep.

Why list the old boat on the club board

Factory dealers will take trades. Fair. Club classifieds are different: you are talking to people who already want a Cobalt, not a generic “boat for sale” scroll. Buyers on MyCobalt are comparing a Deep Creek 206 to a Chesapeake 220S to a Long Island R5 — same brand, different decade and budget.

Right now the live board includes boats like:

That mix is the point. Somebody shopping an R26 might still need a lower-hour R5 for a season, or a family 220S while the new boat builds. Your used hull is part of that conversation.

What I need from you (short list)

Same as always — no novel:

  1. Year, model, engine / drive
  2. Hours if you know them; trailer yes/no
  3. Asking price and where the boat sits
  4. Up to 9 daylight photos (exterior, helm, engine bay, trailer)
  5. Phone and/or email you want buyers to use
  6. HIN if you have it (optional on the public post)

I write the WordPress post from editor@mycobalt.net, tick Boats For Sale plus the right model category, and reply when you are live.

Rates stay club-simple

  • Basic — $25: 90 days, up to 9 photos
  • Premium — $50: longer / unlimited run while you sell

Start at https://www.mycobalt.net/advertise/ — pay, then email the details and photos to editor@mycobalt.net.

If you are still deciding between an R26 and something else in the 2026 book, the lineup comparison is here:

Trading up without ghosting the old listing

When the new boat arrives (or the old one sells), email me. I strip phone and email from the post. I do not delete sold ads — that archive helps the next buyer and keeps asking-price history honest for the club.

Price drop mid-sale? Reply in the same thread and I update the live post. Same for extra photos after a wash-and-wax weekend.

Soft ask

Ordering an R26, moving up from an A-series, or just clearing a slip before winter? List the used Cobalt on MyCobalt. Twenty-five or fifty dollars, club audience, no brokerage theater.
